By law, actions against you must cease when a consumer proposal or a bankruptcy is filed. This includes garnishees, judgements and other legal actions. For example, this does not apply to secured creditors who may have a lien on a car. The other exception to the Stay of Proceedings is a debt for outstanding or ongoing spousal or child support.
